Il reste difficile d’extraire la reine de la masse de ragots malveillants accumulés sur elle\, mais une analyse de l’ensemble de la documentation permet de dégager les grandes lignes de ses objectifs politiques et de comprendre qu’elle fut avant tout une cheffe d’État. \nBiographie \nProfesseur des universités\, spécialiste de l’histoire de la Méditerranée orientale gréco-romaine\, Maurice Sartre a publié de nombreux travaux scientifiques sur l’Asie Mineure et le Proche-Orient\, notamment dix volumes des inscriptions grecques et latines de la Syrie et de la Jordanie. Il a consacré\, dans les années récentes\, une biographie à Zénobie de Palmyre (avec Annie Sartre-Fauriat\, Perrin\, 2014)\, une autre à Cléopâtre (Tallandier 2018)\, ainsi qu’une étude des relations du monde méditerranéen avec les continents lointains (Le bateau de Palmyre\, Tallandier\, 2021).
